Introduction

Mirador Jesuit Villa Retreat House MJVRH) invites visitors to Mirador Heritage and Eco-Spirituality Park (MH-ESP) to experience it as a place of prayer and not just a beautiful place with sites for “selfies”. MJV has prepared a DIY Prayer Walk with various MIRAR Vista & Prayer Stops.

The prayerful walk does not have a continuous narrative. Instead each MIRAR Vista & Prayer Stop offers a prayer guide, inspired by what you can experience at each stop. At each stop, it is suggested that you spend about 10 to 20 minutes beginning with a careful reading of the prayer guide for that stop.

You are not compelled to do all the stops at once. You can do one or two at one visit and another one or two at some later time. You can also use the prayer guides for a one-day recollection that should give you enough time to pray at more stops, maybe at each and every MIRAR Vista. Some stops are a cluster and you may want to focus on a number of related stops, usually near each other.

Structure and Order

After an opening prayer at the St. Joseph’s Shrine (park entrance), the walk has the following MIRAR Vista & Prayer Stops:

Along the way are Mirar Vista Stops, where seating is provided. You can break your prayerful walk and lookout (“mirar” > Spanish root of “mirador,” meaning lookout or vista point). Admire what you see and thank God for the gift of creation and for your life as a continual creation by God.

At each prayer stop, this guide provides
• Orientation > Backstory for the prayer stop
• Activity
• Prayerful consideration
• Prayer

Every so often, as you walk, remind yourself that St. Joseph is your journey companion. The Catholic Church has called him Patriarch and Protector of God’s people. He is also a patron of vocations, ask him to pray that the Good Shepherd sends priests, nuns, brother religious, and dedicated laypersons to tend God’s flock and seek those who are “not of this sheepfold.”
